“985”是江泽民在1998年5月4日在北京大学百年校庆时提出的要在国内建设世界一流名校的讲话。因为是在98年5月份提出的，所以被称为“985”大学。最初选“985”院校的时候，只有9所学校入选，也被称为“九校联盟”。回来陆续又增加了几所，目前国内有“985”院校39所。
