景公出猎，上山见虎，下泽

①见蛇。归，召晏子而问之曰：”今日寡人

②出猎，上山则见虎，下泽则见蛇，殆

③所谓之不祥也？”晏子曰：“国有三不祥

④，是不与

⑤焉。夫有贤

⑥而不知，一不祥；知而不用，二不祥；用而不任

⑦，三不祥也。所谓不祥，乃若此

⑧者也。今上山见虎，虎之室也；下泽见蛇，蛇之穴也。如⑨虎之室，如蛇之穴而见之，曷⑩为不祥也？”

齐景公出外打猎，在山上看见了老虎，在沼泽又看见了蛇。回去之后，他召见并询问晏子：“今天我去打猎，上山就看见老虎，下沼泽就又看见了蛇，这大概就是一般人所说的不吉利的预兆吧！”晏子回答说：“一个国家有三种不吉利，而你刚才说的都不在其内。国家的不祥是：有贤人却不知道，这是第一不吉利；知道了却不能任用，这是第二不吉利；任用了却不能信任，这是第三不吉利。所谓不吉利，就是像这样的事情。今天大王上山看见老虎，山本来就是老虎的窝呀；下沼泽看见蛇，沼泽本来就是蛇的洞穴呀！到老虎窝看到老虎，到蛇穴看到蛇，这是很正常的，怎么说是不吉利呢？”
