1985年，枪炮与玫瑰乐队刚组建不久便创作了《Don't Cry》，并于同年秋在洛杉矶录制了DEMO小样。鼓手Steven Adler编写了简单却动人的鼓点部分。《Don't Cry》是艾克索·罗斯为乐队写的第一首歌曲。艾斯·斯塔德林曾和一个女孩交往，艾克索·罗斯也喜欢这个女孩。他们分手后，艾克索·罗斯意识到自己爱上了这个女孩，但她觉得和艾克索·罗斯之间没有可能。她准备和艾克索·罗斯道别时，艾克索·罗斯开始哭泣，这时女孩说道：“别哭。”（Don't Cry）第二天晚上，艾克索·罗斯和艾斯·斯塔德林在5分钟内写出了这首歌。
