数字摄影测量工作站DPW 与数字摄影测量系统(digital photogrammetric system,DPS)是两个关系密切的概念。著名数字摄影测量学者，德国Hanover大学摄影测量和工程测绘学院的Heipke 教投在2001年的综述论文中转述了国际摄影测量与遥感协会ISPRS对DPW的定义并对该定义做了评论(Heipke，2001)："In the late 1980s,the ISPRS had defined a DPW as ‘hardware and sofware to deive photogrametric products from digital imagery’.While this definition still holds today,already in 1990 Ian Dowman from University College London added,that a DPWS also an active window pointing towards the ineresing'ly importantntegation of photogrammetry (and thus DPWS) and sptial infomation science(and thus GIS)"(ISPRS将DPW定义为可以基于数字影像生产摄影测量产品的硬件和软件的集成》)
