含有 end 的介词短语，都和 end 的本意有关。
1. at the end of…，可表示一段时间的末端，也可以表示一段距离、一条路的终点，译为“在……末端、在……尽头”例如：At the end of last term, we had a big party. 上学习期末，我们举办了一个很大的晚会。At the end of this road, you can find the bank on the right. 在这条路的尽头，您能看到哪家银行在你的右侧。
2. by the end of …，只用于表示时间，译为“到……最后为止”，也可以理解为“在……结束之前”，常用于完成时，例如：By the end of last year, we had learnt 1200 words. 到去年年末，我们已经学了1200个单词。By the end of next month, we'll have finished this project. 到下个月月底，我们将完成这项工程。
3. in the end表示“终于、最后”通常用于讲故事、叙事，相当于 at last ，例如：In the end,our team won the game. 最后，我们队获胜。In the end, the princess married her beloved. 最后，公主嫁给了她的心上人。
4. to the end 表示一个持续动作“延续到……终点为止”，这个持续动作常常是运动或连续性的动词，例如：Go along this road to the end, and you will find the butcher's. 沿着这条路走到尽头，你会找到卖肉的商店。We must go on with the job to the end. 我们得把这项工作进行到底。
